SPECTRAL RADIANCE (I.E. BRIGHTNESS) OF DIFFERENT LIGHT SOURCES: THE BRIGHTNESS OF LAMPS IS RELATIVELY LOW COMPARED TO SPATIALLY COHERENT SOURCES. ON THE OTHER HAND THE SPECTRAL RANGE OF CONVENTIONAL SUPER CONTINUUM SOURCES IS LIMITED TO ABOUT 400 NM. UTRALUMINA'S TOUCAN COMBINES THE HIGH BRIGHTNESS WITH DEEP UV SPECTRAL RANGE.

The toucan is a frequency converter that is placed into the beam path of a suitable pump laser and emits a spatially single-mode spectrum spanning from the deep UV to the near IR. Underlying technology is spectral pulse broadening in a gas-filled, Hollow-Core Photonic Crystal Fibre. Compared to conventional white light lasers the spectal range is extended to about 180 nm and the single mode yields a radiance > 100,000 × than plasma lamps. The UV emission can be changed by the working gas and applied pressure.
